Water supply disruption in several Hyderabad areas due to elevated corridor works

City residents have been advised to stay alert as water supply will be disrupted in several parts of Hyderabad due to ongoing construction work on the elevated corridor near Paradise Junction. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) announced that water supply will be suspended for about 18 hours—from 12 noon on Monday to 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The construction, being carried out by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), involves building an elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road (NH–44). As part of the project, the HMWSSB is expanding an 800 mm MS pipeline at Paradise Junction. The existing pipeline from Marredpally to the Control Room is being connected to a new one, which necessitates a temporary halt in water supply.

Officials have urged residents in the affected areas to store sufficient water in advance and use it only for essential needs during the shutdown period.

Areas Affected

According to the HMWSSB, the following areas will face water supply disruption:

• Nallagutta, Prakashnagar, Mekalamandi, Buddh Nagar, Srinivasnagar,

Bholakpur, Kawadiguda, Sitaphalmandi,

Hasmathpet, Ferozguda, and Gouthamnagar

• South Central Railway, Secunderabad; Begumpet Airport;

Balamrai Pump House, Balamrai Checkpost, Bowenpally;

and Army Ordnance Corps Railway Colony (within the Secunderabad Cantonment Board limits).

The water board has appealed to consumers in these areas to store water beforehand and to minimize usage during the supply cut. Authorities stated that the temporary inconvenience is part of efforts to improve urban infrastructure and ensure better water supply in the long run.

Once the elevated corridor project is completed, traffic congestion between Paradise and Dairy Farm Road is expected to ease considerably. Additionally, the new pipeline connection will enhance water pressure and supply stability in the region, officials added.
