Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan urged citizens to conserve water, stressing that every drop saved today will ensure a secure future . He was speaking at a workshop on sustainable rural drinking water systems held at APSIRD in Kanuru.

He said water conservation will be a key priority under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state government, guided by Union Minister C. R. Patil and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is strengthening measures to promote efficient water use.

Highlighting the importance of water for development , he described rivers such as the Godavari River, Krishna River, Penna River and Vamsadhara River as lifelines of the state, while warning that their conservation remains a major challenge.

He expressed concern over declining groundwater levels and increasing pollution , particularly in rural areas. Stressing the need for collective action, he said public participation is crucial, especially in addressing water shortages in tribal regions through watershed restoration.

The government has launched a 100-day water conservation drive from April 6 to July 14, focusing on rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge awareness, and reuse of household water to reduce wastage .

Officials said guidelines will soon be issued to gram panchayats to implement these measures, along with a comprehensive assessment of water resources in every village before the campaign concludes.
