Warangal Super Speciality Hospital to Begin OP Services on Dasara
The Telangana government is preparing to open outpatient services at Warangal's upcoming multi-super speciality hospital, a major healthcare project intended to improve access to advanced treatment. Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the 24-storey facility would begin trial OP services on October 20, coinciding with Dasara.
The hospital, being constructed on the premises of the former Central Jail in Warangal, has entered the final phase of construction. During his visit to the erstwhile Warangal district on Thursday, Ponguleti inspected the site and reviewed the progress of the project.
He was accompanied by Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, MPs Vem Narender Reddy and Balaram Naik, MLC Baswaraju Saraiah, MLAs Nayini Rajender Reddy and KL Nagaraju, and KUDA Chairperson Gundu Sudharani.
The delegation held discussions with senior officials from the Health and Medical Department, district administrations, medical teams and the Roads and Buildings Department. The minister sought details about the medical departments being established, facilities planned for patients and the infrastructure required to commence hospital operations. He also reviewed the arrangements for the initial launch and said he would inspect the site again on October 17 to assess the remaining work.
Addressing the media after the inspection, Ponguleti said the government had prioritised the project after the previous administration initiated construction but left the hospital incomplete. The present government had allocated the necessary funds and accelerated the work through regular monitoring, he said.
According to the minister, only minor works remain before the hospital can begin providing services. Once operational, the facility is expected to improve access to specialised medical treatment for residents of the erstwhile Warangal district and neighbouring areas, reducing the need to travel to other cities for advanced healthcare.
The hospital is expected to receive approximately 5,000 patients a day, underlining its anticipated importance to the region's healthcare network. The government aims to make the facility fully operational by December, with outpatient services scheduled to commence on a trial basis during Dasara.
Ponguleti reiterated that strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to quality treatment for poor and middle-income families remain key priorities of the government. The hospital is expected to emerge as a major healthcare centre for the region once all its services are fully functional.
