Warangal Airport Project Moves Ahead as Land Acquisition Completed: CM Revanth Reddy

The long-awaited Warangal airport project has moved a significant step forward with the Telangana government completing the acquisition of land required for the proposed airport at Mamunur and handing it over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the development on Saturday through a post on X, saying the completion of land acquisition had taken the project closer to becoming a reality. He also invited suggestions from the public on a suitable name for the proposed airport.

The state government has allocated Rs 295 crore for land acquisition for the project. With the required land now handed over to the AAI, the focus is expected to shift towards the next stages of planning and construction.

Revanth Reddy said the Mamunur airport would not merely improve air connectivity for Warangal but could also become an important catalyst for industry, tourism, education, employment and investment in the region. Better connectivity, he said, would open new opportunities and strengthen Warangal’s economic potential.

The Chief Minister also targeted the previous BRS government, alleging that it had failed to fulfil Warangal’s long-standing demand for an airport despite being in power for 10 years. He accused the previous administration of giving priority to family interests and farmhouses rather than public needs, and said the project was now progressing under the Congress government.

Meanwhile, Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed airport was being prepared. He added that the layout for the airport buildings had also reached the final stage.

Kishan Reddy said there was a possibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing the foundation ceremony for the airport.

The completion of land acquisition marks an important milestone for the project, which has remained a long-standing demand in the region. The DPR process and other preparatory works are continuing, while the government has sought public suggestions on the airport’s name.
