‘Vote Chori Is in BJP’s DNA,’ Says Rahul Gandhi at Delhi Rally
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party’s fight against what he called an attack on India’s democracy would continue. Addressing a massive rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday, he alleged that “vote theft” is embedded in the BJP’s DNA and asserted that the Modi–RSS government would be removed from power by following the path of truth.
Speaking at the Congress party’s ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ rally, Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Union government and the Election Commission. “We have truth on our side, while they have power. In the end, truth will prevail,” he said, alleging that vote theft has become the ladder for the BJP to come to power.
Election Commission accused of favouring BJP
Naming Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other election commissioners, Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission of acting in favour of the BJP. He said that despite Congress raising questions over alleged irregularities in elections held in Haryana and other states, no answers were given.
He further alleged that even when reports emerged of ₹10,000 being distributed during the Bihar elections, the Election Commission failed to take action. The ongoing battle, he said, was between truth and falsehood, and the Election Commission was standing with the government instead of remaining neutral.
Law protecting Election Commission will be repealed
Referring to a law brought by the Modi government to provide protection to the Election Commission, Rahul Gandhi warned that once Congress comes to power, the law would be repealed. He added that the party would not hesitate to make it retrospective, if required, and take action.
Citing recent remarks by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Rahul Gandhi said Indian culture and all religions place truth above everything else, while the RSS prioritises power. “This is a fight between truth and lies,” he said, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah would be defeated through truth and non-violence, not hatred or violence.
Six crore signatures against vote theft
Rahul Gandhi said the Congress had collected around six crore signatures across the country against vote theft and would soon submit them to the President. He claimed that the slogan ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ was now echoing nationwide.
Vote theft, he said, was not merely an electoral irregularity but a direct attack on Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution. By undermining the principle of “one citizen, one vote,” the BJP was trampling upon a fundamental democratic right, he alleged.
He also linked issues such as the destruction of small businesses, a flawed GST system, unemployment, and pollution to what he described as politics rooted in vote theft.
The rally was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Congress chief ministers from various states, and a large number of party leaders and workers.
