Vishal’s upcoming film ‘Magudam’ halted following director dispute

Actor Vishal’s much-anticipated film Magudam (titled Makutam in Telugu) has come to a standstill following a major fallout with its director, Ravi Arasu.

According to industry sources, the disagreement between Vishal and Ravi Arasu escalated midway through production, prompting Vishal to remove the director from the project. The actor later announced on social media that he would take over the film’s direction himself.

However, the issue took a legal turn after Ravi Arasu lodged a complaint with the FEFSI committee (Film Employees Federation of South India). He alleged that Vishal continued shooting without official permission and that the story of Magudam was solely his creation, while the screenplay, dialogues, and direction were being handled by Vishal. The Directors’ Association has now intervened, demanding that Vishal obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Ravi Arasu before resuming production. Without it, filming cannot continue.

This isn’t the first time Vishal has faced such setbacks. His earlier project Thupparivaalan 2 ( Detective 2 in Telugu), directed by Mysskin, was also shelved midway due to creative differences. Frequent clashes with directors have reportedly become a topic of concern within the Tamil film industry, with insiders pointing to recurring management issues in Vishal’s recent projects.

Meanwhile, Vishal is currently busy with Vishal 31 (working title), an action entertainer directed by Thu.Pa.Saravanan. Packed with high-octane sequences, the film is expected to mark a milestone in his career.

Interestingly, Vishal recently scored a big win at the box office with Madha Gaja Raja , which released during Pongal 2025—12 years after its initial production. The film overcame numerous controversies to emerge as a commercial success, earning him widespread appreciation.

Just as the success of Madha Gaja Raja was expected to boost his upcoming ventures, the Magudam controversy has once again cast uncertainty over his future projects. Fans and industry watchers are now keen to see when Vishal will finally put an end to these recurring troubles and get Magudam back on track.
