Visakhapatnam unveils India’s longest glass bridge over Kailasagiri Hills
Tourism in Visakhapatnam is set to get a spectacular boost with the inauguration of India’s longest glass bridge. The 50-meter-long modern bridge, located atop the iconic Kailasagiri Hills, opened to the public on December 1, offering breathtaking aerial views of the Bay of Bengal and the city skyline.
This new glass bridge surpasses Kerala’s 40-meter-long bridge record, making it the longest of its kind in the country. Constructed at a cost of approximately ₹7 crore, the bridge has been designed to ensure safety and durability, even in extreme weather conditions. Visitors can now enjoy panoramic views from above, and the bridge will be beautifully illuminated with tricolor lighting in the evenings.
The inauguration was attended by MP Sri Bharat and Mayor P. Sailendra Rao. Speaking on the occasion, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) Chairman Pranav Gopal highlighted the authority’s focus on developing Visakhapatnam as a leading tourist destination in India through several key projects.
MP Sri Bharat also announced plans for a future “Trishul” project on Kailasagiri, which will further enhance the area’s attractions. The bridge was built using 40 mm thick laminated glass imported from Germany and can safely hold up to 500 tons. It is engineered to withstand winds blowing at speeds of up to 250 km/h. At any given time, up to 40 visitors can walk on the bridge and enjoy the stunning views surrounding Kailasagiri Hills.
