
Visakhapatnam Port sets new record: 90.29 million tonnes cargo handled in 362 days
The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved a historic milestone in its long-standing history by recording unprecedented cargo throughput in the current financial year. In a remarkable feat, the port handled 90.29 million tonnes of cargo in just 362 days , the highest ever in its 92-year history .
Previous records surpassed
The earliest highest cargo handling stood at 82.62 million tonnes during the 2024–25 financial year . Surpassing this significantly, VPA has now set a new benchmark , Chairperson M. Angamuthu said in a statement on Sunday. He attributed the achievement to the relentless efforts of port staff and effective coordination with stakeholders .
Target of 100 million tonnes
Speaking on the port’s future plans, Angamuthu expressed confidence in sustaining the growth momentum. He stated that the port has set a target of 100 million tonnes of cargo handling for the 2026–27 financial year . With modern technology and strategic planning , Visakhapatnam Port aims to further strengthen its position among the country’s major ports , he added.
Deputy Chairperson Roshni Aparanji Korati also expressed happiness over the achievement, praising the dedication and commitment of the staff . Officials reiterated that the port continues to play a crucial role in the nation’s trade sector and remains committed to delivering enhanced services in the future.
