Visakhapatnam Gears Up for Global Naval Spectacle

Visakhapatnam is gearing up to become the centre of global naval attention as it prepares to host two major international naval events, the International Fleet Review (IFR) on February 18 and the Milan 2026 naval exercise on February 19. Preparations for the high-profile programmes are progressing at a brisk pace.

A high-level review meeting was held on Monday at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat to assess security and logistics . The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand and attended by Eastern Naval Command Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Sushil Menon (VSM) and senior naval officials.

The twin events are expected to witness an impressive display of global naval strength . Warships from 19 countries , including Sri Lanka and Iran, will participate, along with nearly 4,000 foreign delegates . In addition, three naval ships from the United States, Germany and France , along with about 150 delegates, will be present. The Indian Navy will deploy around 90 ships, 45 aircraft , and nearly 600 personnel .

The International Fleet Review, to be held off the Visakhapatnam coast on February 18, will be attended by President Droupadi Murmu , Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer , and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu . Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will participate in the Milan 2026 programme on February 19. In view of the presence of VVIPs, officials were directed to ensure airtight security , smooth traffic management, and flawless logistical arrangements.

During the International Fleet Review, the President will review the capabilities of the Indian Navy and friendly foreign navies . The Milan exercise aims to strengthen naval cooperation and enhance maritime security .
