Virat Kohli Eyes Seven Major Records in Five-Match New Zealand ODI Series
Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli will have several records and milestones within reach when India take on New Zealand in the upcoming five-match ODI series, beginning on November 4 in Auckland.
The 37-year-old, widely known as 'King Kohli', could achieve multiple career milestones, further strengthening his position among the greatest batters in international cricket.
Kohli is currently level with Sachin Tendulkar with 60 List A centuries. Another hundred would make him the highest century-maker in the format. He is also close to averaging more than 50 in ODIs across all four SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia). While he averages 50.03 in Australia, 51.48 in England and 76.38 in South Africa, his New Zealand average stands at 49.66 from 13 innings.
The series also offers Kohli an opportunity to complete his collection of Player of the Series awards across all SENA nations. Having already received the honour in Australia, England and South Africa, New Zealand remains the only missing destination.
In ODI run-chases, Kohli has accumulated 8,667 runs in 179 matches, including 30 centuries and 45 half-centuries. He needs another 54 runs to surpass Tendulkar's record of 8,720 runs.
Kohli is also just 12 runs away from becoming the first batter to score 13,000 ODI runs at number three. He currently has 12,988 runs in 253 matches at the position.
Additionally, he shares the record of 133 fifty-plus international scores against SENA nations with Tendulkar. One more would give him the outright record. He also needs two more fifty-plus scores in winning ODI matches to surpass Australia's Ricky Ponting, who leads with 94.
Kohli has enjoyed an impressive 2026, scoring 552 runs in nine ODI innings at an average of 69, including two centuries and three half-centuries. Against the West Indies recently, he scored 168 runs, highlighted by an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls.
The second-highest run-scorer in ODI history, Kohli has accumulated 15,109 runs, including 55 centuries and 79 half-centuries. The New Zealand series could add several more remarkable achievements to his illustrious career.
