
Vinesh Phogat Faces Disciplinary Action As WFI Declares Her Ineligible For Domestic Events
The Wrestling Federation of India Wrestling Federation of India has issued a show cause notice to star wrestler Vinesh Phogat Vinesh Phogat, putting her under scrutiny and declaring her ineligible for domestic competitions till June 26, 2026 .
The federation has cited concerns related to indiscipline , compliance issues under anti doping rules , and alleged violations linked to international wrestling regulations governed by United World Wrestling United World Wrestling.
According to the notice, Vinesh has also not completed the mandatory six month notice period required for athletes returning from retirement, which has directly impacted her eligibility to compete at the domestic level for now.
The decision means she will miss upcoming events, including the National Open Ranking Tournament in Gonda , scheduled from May 10 to 12, which was expected to mark her competitive return.
In a detailed 15 page communication, the federation has listed multiple charges. These include her disqualification from the 2024 Paris Olympics after failing to make weight, alleged whereabouts related compliance issues under anti doping norms, and her participation in two different weight categories during the March 2024 selection trials conducted under the then Indian Olympic Association Indian Olympic Association appointed ad hoc panel.
The WFI has also stated that her conduct has caused national embarrassment and goes against the federation’s constitution as well as international wrestling standards.
“The federation must satisfy itself that you have not committed an anti doping rule violation that would render you ineligible to represent the federation in any forthcoming competition,” the notice said.
Vinesh has been given 14 days to respond to the allegations, after which further action may be taken depending on her explanation.
The development adds another tense chapter to Indian wrestling, with the spotlight now firmly on compliance, athlete conduct, and regulatory enforcement at the highest level.
