Vijayawada's Dasara celebrations begin with Bala Tripura Sundari darshan

The annual Dasara celebrations have officially begun at the renowned Kanaka Durga Temple on Indrakeeladri Hill, marking the start of one of Andhra Pradesh's most significant festivals. The grand event, which is set to run for 11 days from yesterday to October 2nd, will see the presiding deity, Goddess Durga, adorned in 11 different forms, each with its own spiritual significance.

The inaugural day saw Goddess Durga presented as Bala Tripura Sundari Devi, a form symbolizing youthful beauty and divine power. The deity, resplendently decorated, attracted a massive influx of devotees who began queuing up from the early hours of the morning. Temple authorities have made extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth and convenient experience for all visitors, with a particular focus on efficient crowd management. These measures include a multi-layered security plan, dedicated queues for general pilgrims and special darshans, and the setup of temporary shelters and drinking water facilities to provide comfort to those waiting in long lines.

Darshan for the goddess will begin at 4 AM from the second day onwards. Among the many highlights of the festival is Monday, September 29, which marks the auspicious Moola Nakshatra. On this day, the goddess will be decorated as Saraswati Devi, the goddess of knowledge and arts, attracting pilgrims and students alike.

A special event on Moola Nakshatra will be the visit of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The CM is scheduled to visit the temple between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM to have darshan and present traditional silk garments to the goddess on behalf of the state government, a long-standing tradition that signifies the state's reverence for the deity. The city has been enveloped in a festive atmosphere, with chants of hymns filling the air and the streets leading to the temple decorated with vibrant lights and colorful banners, celebrating the victory of good over evil. The temple administration, in coordination with police and civic departments, is working round the clock to manage the massive flow of pilgrims and ensure the safety and sanctity of the celebrations.
