Vijayawada set to get first direct international flight to Singapore

In a landmark development for Andhra Pradesh, plans are underway for a direct international flight connecting Vijayawada and Singapore, expected to start from 15 November 2025. The service, proposed to be operated by IndiGo Airlines on a tri-weekly basis (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays), marks a significant step toward enhancing global connectivity for the state.

If launched, this would be the first direct international flight from Vijayawada, fulfilling a long-standing demand from residents, the Telugu diaspora, students, and business travellers. The new route is expected to facilitate travel convenience, strengthen trade links, and open opportunities for education, tourism, and deeper engagement with ASEAN nations.

Officials note that the absence of such direct services until now was due to infrastructure limitations at Vijayawada Airport and previously insufficient passenger volumes to sustain long-haul international flights. Historically, travellers from Andhra Pradesh have relied on nearby hubs such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai for international travel. With the city’s growth and Amaravati’s emergence as a future-ready capital, there is now renewed potential for viable direct international connectivity.

While exact fare details have not been officially announced, industry benchmarks suggest that one-way economy tickets on similar India–Singapore routes usually range between ₹18,000 and ₹30,000, depending on season, demand, and booking timing. Fares for the Vijayawada–Singapore flight, if launched, are expected to align with this range, potentially with promotional pricing in the initial period.

The proposed flight is also viewed as a strategic step in boosting Amaravati’s global profile, attracting investments, and facilitating international partnerships. By connecting Andhra Pradesh directly with one of Asia’s major aviation and business hubs, the state moves closer to realizing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of a “Connected Andhra Pradesh.”
