Actor-turned-politician Vijay and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Monday filed their nominations from key constituencies in Chennai, setting the stage for a high-stakes contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Making his electoral debut , Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), filed his nomination from the Perambur Assembly constituency in north Chennai. The constituency, known for its working-class population , is seen as a strategic choice for the actor-politician. Vijay is also contesting from Tiruchirappalli-East , expanding his presence into central Tamil Nadu.

After filing his nomination, Vijay addressed supporters from an open-top vehicle and launched a sharp attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government. Alleging deteriorating law and order, lack of safety for women, and widespread corruption , he accused the government of failing the people. He also raised allegations of financial irregularities in departments including TASMAC.

Positioning TVK as a direct challenger to the DMK , Vijay urged voters, particularly the youth, to support his party’s “whistle” symbol , calling the election a “ whistle revolution .” He said he had entered politics to serve the people and promised honesty and accountability.

Meanwhile, DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin filed his nomination from the Kolathur Assembly constituency , where he is seeking a fourth consecutive term . Stalin has represented Kolathur since 2011 , winning successive elections in 2016 and 2021 .

Expressing confidence after filing his papers, Stalin said the people of Kolathur would once again deliver a “spectacular victory.” He later conducted a brief roadshow , interacting with residents and seeking their continued support. The DMK leader also released a book detailing his development works and achievements in the constituency.

With Vijay’s high-profile entry into electoral politics and Stalin aiming to retain his stronghold, the nominations signal an intensifying political contest in Tamil Nadu , particularly in Chennai, ahead of polling.
