Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), visited the renowned Tiruchendur Subramanya Swamy Temple on Tuesday and offered prayers at the famous shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan.

Also known as the Tiruchendur Murugan temple, the shrine is the second among the six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu) of Lord Subrahmanya in Tamil Nadu and attracts thousands of devotees every year.

Vijay began the spiritual trip late Monday night, taking a private flight from Chennai to Madurai before travelling by road to Tiruchendur in the early hours of Tuesday. Despite the midnight arrival, large numbers of fans gathered at the airport to catch a glimpse of the actor-politician, forcing police to manage the crowd as he acknowledged supporters by waving from his vehicle.

Dressed in a traditional silk veshti and shirt , Vijay reached the temple early in the morning where he was accorded Poorna Kumbha temple honours by authorities. As part of the customary welcome, he was presented with a sacred Vel (spear) associated with Lord Murugan and a ceremonial shawl.

Despite the early-morning timing, a large crowd of devotees and fans gathered around the temple premises to see the actor-turned-politician.

During the visit, Vijay participated in the Viswaroopa darshan and offered prayers at the sanctum. He also performed prayers at multiple shrines inside the temple complex , including those dedicated to Murugan, Valli, Deivanai and other deities.

According to party sources, the TVK leader prayed for the victory of his party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election held on April 23 , which marks the first major electoral test for his political outfit. The counting of votes on May 4 is expected to determine the outcome of the closely watched polls.

After completing the darshan, Vijay left Tiruchendur and was expected to return to Chennai via Madurai. He was accompanied during the temple visit by TVK general secretary ‘Bussy’ Anand and other party leaders.

The visit has drawn considerable public and political attention as observers closely watch Vijay’s moves following the polling phase and ahead of the election results.
