Vijay to Flag Off Le Mans Cup at Silverstone Amid Buzz Over Ajith Meeting
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, is in the United Kingdom on a visit aimed at attracting investments to the state, with his scheduled appearance at the Michelin Le Mans Cup round at Silverstone adding a major motorsport dimension to his trip.
Vijay left Chennai on September 10 and is expected to hold meetings with potential investors during his UK visit, which is scheduled to continue until September 16. His appearance at Silverstone on September 12 has drawn particular attention as he is set to be a special guest and wave the green flag at the race.
The Silverstone event is the fifth round of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup season, bringing a strong Indian connection to the international racing series.
Actor-turned-racer Ajith Kumar is competing at Silverstone for Ajith RedAnt Racing by Virage, sharing an LMP3 Pro/Am entry with French driver Romain Voisin. Former Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan and Aditya Patel are also set to compete as an all-Indian pairing in the LMP3 category for Ajith RedAnt Racing.
Vijay's presence at the circuit has therefore fuelled speculation about a possible meeting with Ajith, although no official confirmation of such a meeting has been made.
The visit also has a broader policy angle. Vijay's government has proposed developing a Motor Sports City in Tamil Nadu, alongside an Olympic City, as part of efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure and promote sporting talent.
Ajith has previously backed the idea of a Motor Sports City, saying initiatives of this nature could help identify and nurture young racing talent.
With investment meetings on one side and an international motorsport event on the other, Vijay's UK visit combines economic outreach with Tamil Nadu's growing motorsport ambitions.
