Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Thursday filed his nomination from the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency , intensifying the campaign for the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections .

Vijay submitted his nomination around noon at the Ariyamangalam Zonal Office of the Trichy Corporation , formally entering the electoral fray from the key central Tamil Nadu seat.

Ahead of the filing, the actor-politician led a massive roadshow from the Tiruchirappalli airport , drawing thousands of supporters who lined the streets to greet him and causing heavy traffic in several parts of the city.

During the procession near Melapudur, Vijay briefly halted his convoy to help a two-wheeler rider involved in a minor accident , an act that drew attention from supporters and bystanders.

Large crowds also posed security challenges during the campaign event, with reports that a police constable on duty was injured while managing the gathering .

Vijay is contesting the elections from two constituencies, Tiruchirappalli East and Perambur in Chennai , marking his electoral debut and a major test for his relatively new political outfit.

A day earlier, the TVK chief released the party’s official campaign anthem on social media platforms. The high-energy song highlights themes of social justice and Tamil identity , reflecting the party’s stated “secular social justice” ideology and forming a key part of its election messaging.

The anthem is expected to feature prominently at Vijay’s campaign rally at Marakkadai Junction , a symbolic venue where he had earlier launched parts of his political outreach.

Meanwhile, the TVK leadership has also raised concerns about security arrangements during campaign events. Vijay has written to the Chief Electoral Officer seeking enhanced police protection , citing crowd surges and alleged lapses during earlier rallies.

Senior party leader K A Sengottaiyan defended Vijay’s decision to contest from two seats , saying it is not unusual in Tamil Nadu politics and citing historical precedents of leaders contesting multiple constituencies.

The Tiruchirappalli East constituency is expected to witness a keen three-cornered contest , with Vijay facing the ruling DMK’s incumbent MLA Inigo Iruthayaraj and the AIADMK’s G Rajasekaran .

Polling for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 23, while counting of votes is scheduled for May 4 .
