Vignesh Shivan sets sights on joining top league of directors

Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan has expressed his ambition to rise to the ranks of India’s most celebrated directors, drawing comparisons with industry heavyweights like S. S. Rajamouli and Prashanth Neel. Speaking during an interaction on a podcast hosted by Gobinath, the 40-year-old director outlined his aspirations to achieve similar stature through consistent work and impactful storytelling.

During the conversation, Shivan highlighted how certain names have become benchmarks in their respective fields, citing Anirudh Ravichander as a leading force in music and Nayanthara among top actresses. He noted that his goal is to attain a comparable level of recognition as a filmmaker.

Shivan, who gained prominence with films such as Naanum Rowdy Dhaan starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara , also reflected on past professional setbacks, including his fallout with actor-producer Dhanush. While acknowledging these challenges, he emphasized his focus on growth and future projects.

Currently, Shivan is directing Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), a romantic entertainer that has generated significant buzz. The film stars Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead, alongside Krithi Shetty, marking a fresh on-screen pairing. The project also reunites Shivan with composer Anirudh Ravichander, with expectations that the film will combine a youthful narrative with a strong musical appeal.
