Vidya Balan joins Rajinikanth in Tamil blockbuster ‘Jailer 2’

Bollywood powerhouse Vidya Balan is set to make her full-fledged debut in Tamil cinema with Jailer 2 , starring opposite superstar Rajinikanth. The film marks Vidya’s return to Kollywood after her brief cameo in the 2019 Ajith-starrer Nerkonda Paarvai .

In Jailer 2 , Vidya reportedly plays the daughter of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, who portrays the film’s main antagonist. The combination of Rajinikanth and Mithun, two iconic stars from different industries has already created major buzz among fans.

The film’s final leg of shooting is currently underway in Chennai, with the team set to move to Goa for a two-month schedule starting at the end of October. Post-production is expected to begin in January 2026.

Behind-the-scenes clips from the sets have gone viral on social media, offering glimpses of high-octane action sequences and lighthearted moments between the cast. The footage, shared alongside Diwali greetings, has amplified fans’ excitement about the film.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 serves as a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer . Rajinikanth reprises his role, with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa returning in pivotal roles. Actor-director S.J. Suryah joins the cast in a new character, while Shivarajkumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna, and Mithun Chakraborty are set to make special appearances.

Interestingly, Shivarajkumar will continue his role from the first film. Jailer 2 is slated for a grand theatrical release on June 12, 2026.

The reunion of Rajinikanth and Mithun Chakraborty is another major highlight. The two legends previously shared screen space in the Hindi film Bhrashtachar and the Bengali drama Bhagya Debata .

Although Rajinikanth’s recent outing Coolie with Lokesh Kanagaraj underperformed at the box office, industry insiders believe Jailer 2 packed with intense action, humor, and star power will emerge as one of the most anticipated Tamil films of 2026.
