The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday accused social media giant Meta of anti-Hindu actions over the removal of a video featuring Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inviting people to attend the World Hindu Congress 2026 in Mumbai. The organisation demanded the video's restoration, a public apology and government intervention.

In a post on X, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said the video, uploaded by the World Hindu Congress on October 26, was blocked on Facebook and Instagram within hours. According to him, the video was removed again after it was reposted on October 27.

Questioning the action, Bansal asked Meta to clarify the alleged violation that prompted the removal. He demanded that the company immediately restore the video and issue a public apology.

Bansal also urged the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the concerned minister to intervene, take appropriate action and caution Meta against what he described as a unilateral and arbitrary decision. He warned that the World Hindu Congress would be compelled to pursue legal action if Meta continued with such measures. Bansal said complaints had been lodged with the central government, Mumbai Police and Delhi Police.

"This high-handedness will not be tolerated in India. Accountability must be fixed," he said.

Alongside his post, Bansal shared a press release issued by the World Hindu Congress, stating that its organising committee had written to MeitY, Mumbai Police and Delhi Police seeking their intervention and an explanation from Meta over the video's removal. The organisation has sought clarity on the grounds for the action and called for the authorities to address its concerns.

The World Hindu Congress 2026 is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from December 18 to 20. The event is expected to bring together participants for discussions on issues concerning the Hindu community.
