VF 6 & VF 7: Stylish EV SUVs hit Indian roads

Vietnamese automaker VinFast has officially launched its VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs in India, aiming to strengthen the country’s growing electric vehicle (EV) market. The vehicles are produced at VinFast’s 400-acre manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, marking the company’s first overseas plant. The facility currently has an initial production capacity of 50,000 units per year, with plans to scale up to 150,000 units. The plant is expected to generate approximately 3,500 local jobs and support both domestic demand and potential exports to Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

The VF 6 is priced between ₹16.49 lakh and ₹18.29 lakh, while the larger VF 7 ranges from ₹20.89 lakh to ₹25.49 lakh. Both models combine SUV styling with long-range electric powertrains, catering to the growing preference for SUVs and MPVs in India, which account for nearly two-thirds of car sales in the current financial year. The VF 6 is equipped with a 59.6 kWh battery offering an ARAI-certified range of up to 468 km and supports DC fast charging from 10 to 70 percent in approximately 25 minutes. The VF 7 comes with a 70.8 kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 496 km, with fast charging in 28 minutes. Higher trims of both models offer all-wheel drive and enhanced acceleration.

VinFast has focused on technology, design, and comfort. Both models feature large touchscreens, vegan-leather upholstery, over-the-air software updates, and practical cabin layouts with flat rear floors for improved second-row comfort. Boot space measures 423 litres in the VF 6 and 537 litres in the VF 7, with folding seats for additional flexibility. Driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and 360-degree cameras. The vehicles’ exteriors reflect Pininfarina’s design influence, with sharp surfaces, coupe-like rooflines, and V-shaped lighting signatures.

To encourage adoption, VinFast is offering free nationwide DC charging at partner V-Green stations until July 2028, three years of complimentary maintenance, and a 10-year or 200,000 km battery warranty. The company is also rapidly expanding its dealer and service network, planning 35 touchpoints and 26 workshops across 27 cities by the end of 2025, covering metro areas and emerging EV hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

India’s EV market has been growing steadily, with over 90,000 electric cars and SUVs sold between January and July 2025. July alone recorded more than 15,000 units sold, a monthly record. The share of battery-electric vehicles in new passenger vehicle registrations reached 5.4 percent in August, up from 4.9 percent in July. The luxury EV segment has grown faster, with sales increasing 66 percent between January and May, raising its market share from 7 percent to 11 percent.

VinFast’s VF 6 and VF 7 provide Indian consumers with accessible, long-range electric SUVs that combine style, technology, and convenience. These models address practical considerations such as range, charging, maintenance, and warranty, positioning them to contribute to the expansion of electric mobility in India.
