Veteran PTI journalist S Ramasamy passes away at 74

The journalism fraternity on Sunday mourned the loss of veteran journalist S Ramasamy , a former Regional Manager of Press Trust of India (PTI) , who died in Chennai due to age-related complications . He was 74 .

Affectionately known as “SR” among colleagues, Ramasamy spent nearly three decades with PTI , earning a reputation as a calm and reliable journalist. He joined the news agency in 1978 and went on to cover major political developments in Tamil Nadu during an important phase in the state’s political history.

Over the years, Ramasamy reported extensively on the state’s major political parties, including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) . His balanced reporting and professional approach helped him build strong rapport with several senior political leaders across party lines.

Colleagues remember him as an affable and composed journalist who handled even the most demanding newsroom situations with remarkable calm and professionalism. His dedication to journalism earned him deep respect among both senior and younger reporters.

After years of service, he rose to become Regional Manager at PTI , leaving behind a legacy of quiet professionalism, credibility, and newsroom leadership.

Ramasamy is survived by his wife and daughter . The final rites will be held later on Sunday , family sources said.
