Veteran Kerala actor Kannan Pattambi passes away at 62 after prolonged kidney illness

The Malayalam film industry is in mourning after the passing of Kannan Pattambi , a respected production controller and supporting actor, who died late on Sunday at the age of 62 . He had been battling a kidney-related illness and breathed his last at 11.41 pm . His elder brother, acclaimed filmmaker Major Ravi , announced the news, stating that the funeral was held at 4 pm on Monday at their family residence in Njangattiri, Pattambi .

Kannan Pattambi had a career spanning over three decades , making significant contributions both on screen and behind the scenes. While audiences remember him for his supporting roles in Malayalam cinema , he also appeared in the Telugu film ACP Madhava (2021) , marking his presence beyond Mollywood. His notable performances include Pulimurugan, Ananthabhadram, Odiyan, Keerthi Chakra, Vettam, Crazy Gopalan, Kandahar, Thanthra , and 12th Man , with his final acting project being the yet-to-be-released film Rachel .

However, Kannan’s most lasting impact was as a production controller , a role often overlooked but critical to filmmaking. The FEFKA Directors’ Union and countless film personalities expressed heartfelt condolences, recognizing his contributions to both the creative and logistical sides of filmmaking.

Kannan Pattambi is survived by his wife and daughter , leaving behind a legacy that extends from his memorable on-screen performances to the vital, often invisible work that made numerous films possible.
