Veteran Telugu filmmaker, actor and senior politician Chitti Babu passed away , leaving behind a legacy that spans cinema and public service. His demise has cast a pall of gloom over the Telugu film industry, with several celebrities expressing grief and paying heartfelt tributes.
Chitti Babu began his film journey in the writing department as an assistant, where he honed his craft under experienced filmmakers. Gaining valuable industry exposure, he made his directorial debut in 1984 with Santhanam . The film marked the beginning of a career rooted in realistic storytelling and emotional narratives.
He went on to direct several films including Naa Peru Durga , Pralayam , Preminchi Choodu , and Raithu Bharatam , showcasing his ability to handle diverse subjects ranging from family dramas to socially relevant themes. His films were known for their simplicity and strong connection to everyday life.
Chitti Babu often acknowledged Mohan Babu for giving him his first opportunity as a director. Apart from directing, he also worked extensively behind the scenes, contributing as a co-director in as many as 49 films, an achievement that reflects his deep involvement in the filmmaking process.
In addition to his work behind the camera, he appeared in several films in supporting and character roles, earning recognition for his natural screen presence and grounded performances.
Beyond cinema, Chitti Babu ventured into politics and became an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As a senior leader, he participated in various party activities and remained committed to public service.
