
Veteran Actor Bharat Kapoor Passes Away At 80 Due To Cardiac Arrest
Veteran actor Bharat Kapoor , known for his extensive work in Hindi cinema in supporting and negative roles, passed away on Monday afternoon following a cardiac arrest . He was 80.
According to actor and close friend Avatar Gill , Kapoor died around 3:00 pm at his residence after being unwell for the past few days. His son Rahul Kapoor informed the family about his demise.
“I got a call from Bharat ji’s son Rahul saying that his father passed away around 3:00 pm due to cardiac arrest at his residence. He was unwell for three days,” Gill told PTI, adding that Kapoor’s absence even for a short time had been unusual given their long-standing friendship.
Gill, who had worked with Kapoor in theatre and films for over five decades, described him as “an elder brother, mentor, and close friend.”
Kapoor was widely recognised for his roles in films such as “Hindustan Ki Kasam,” “Sone Pe Suhaaga,” “Balidaan,” “Barsaat,” “Aakhree Raasta,” “Noorie,” “Ram Balram,” and “Inkaar.” He was particularly known for his strong screen presence in negative and character roles across mainstream cinema.
His last rites were performed on Monday evening at 6:00 pm at the crematorium near Sion Hospital . A chautha ceremony is scheduled for April 30 at the North Bombay Association.
Several members from the film and theatre community, including Rakesh Bedi, director Ramesh Talvar , and fellow theatre artists, attended the funeral to pay their final respects.
Kapoor is survived by his wife Lopa and sons Rahul and Sagar . His daughter Kavita had passed away a few years earlier.
