Verstappen wins Las Vegas GP as McLarens disqualified for technical breach

Max Verstappen delivered a dominant performance to claim victory at the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix, reinforcing his status as one of the strongest contenders in the Drivers’ Championship. From the very first corner, Verstappen asserted control, overtaking pole-sitter Lando Norris at Turn 1 and gradually building a lead that he maintained throughout the 50-lap street race.

Verstappen’s Red Bull displayed superior pace, handling the tight and challenging Las Vegas street circuit with precision. Despite pressure from Norris and Mercedes’ George Russell in the opening laps, the Dutch driver remained untroubled, crossing the finish line nearly 21 seconds ahead of his closest rivals.

Lando Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri initially finished second and fourth on the road. However, post-race scrutineering revealed that the rear skid blocks on both McLaren cars were below the minimum 9 mm thickness mandated by the technical regulations. As a result, both were disqualified, promoting George Russell to second place and rookie Kimi Antonelli to a career-first podium in third.

Antonelli’s performance was particularly impressive, rising from 17th on the grid to finish on the podium, fending off late-race challenges from Charles Leclerc and Piastri before the latter’s disqualification. The Italian rookie showcased skill and consistency, marking a milestone in his Formula One career.

The results intensify the Drivers’ Championship battle. Lando Norris remains the points leader with 390, while Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen are now tied at 366 points. With just two races left in the season, every point will be crucial, and Verstappen’s victory keeps the title fight wide open.

Red Bull team principal praised Verstappen for his flawless execution, noting that the win came purely from racecraft and speed, independent of the McLaren disqualification. Meanwhile, teams are reassessing strategies ahead of the remaining rounds, aware that technical compliance and consistency could be decisive in the final championship standings.

Verstappen’s Las Vegas triumph is a clear statement: he remains a formidable contender, and with momentum on his side, the fight for the 2025 F1 title is far from over.
