Venugopal accuses Vijayan of targeting Rahul Gandhi, Avoiding criticism of PM Modi
Senior Congress leader K. C. Venugopal on Friday alleged that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been selectively targeting Rahul Gandhi while refraining from criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing reporters in Wayanad, Venugopal claimed that Vijayan’s recent remarks indicate apprehension over Gandhi’s political influence in Kerala. He said the Chief Minister had repeatedly criticised the Congress leader over the past two days but had not made any comment against the Prime Minister.
The Congress leader further alleged that Vijayan’s stance stems from agreements signed between the Kerala government and the Centre on initiatives such as PM SHRI and labour codes. He contrasted Vijayan’s approach with that of other chief ministers, including M. K. Stalin, who, he said, had been assertively raising state concerns and opposing what he termed divisive politics.
Venugopal also defended the Congress party’s conduct, stating that its leaders maintain a democratic approach and avoid using harsh language against the public. His remarks came in reference to an alleged recent incident involving the Chief Minister’s interaction with a supporter.
Reaffirming the unity within the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) , Venugopal expressed confidence that the alliance would unseat the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) . He said a future UDF government would prioritise completing housing projects promised to victims of the 2024 landslides in Wayanad.
He also voiced optimism about the UDF’s electoral prospects in the region, expressing confidence of a sweeping victory when results are announced on May 4.
