VELS awards celebrate student excellence

The VELS Medical College and Hospital, part of the VELS Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS), successfully hosted the VELS Academic Excellence Awards 2025 at its Periyapalayam campus. The event celebrated exceptional scholastic achievements and provided students with valuable career guidance, inspiring young minds to excel academically and professionally.

Renowned educationist and career consultant Thiru Jayaprakash Gandhi addressed the gathering, delivering insights on career guidance and emerging opportunities. He highlighted that nearly 63% of candidates clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination (2017–2021) were engineering graduates, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary learning. Gandhi also discussed innovative programs such as B.Tech in Defence Technology and B.Tech in Law, along with emerging trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies like e-taste devices, encouraging students to stay abreast of modern career opportunities.

Showcasing VELS’ prominence in healthcare, Gandhi noted that the Medical College and Hospital treats over 2,000 patients daily and holds NAAC A++ and Category I accreditation, cementing its reputation as one of Chennai’s premier institutions. He encouraged students to explore careers in medicine, nursing, optometry, and cardiac care, which are increasingly in demand due to lifestyle-related health challenges.

Dr. Preethaa Ganesh, Vice President of VELS Group of Institutions, honored top-performing students from participating schools. In an engaging segment, five students were awarded electronic devices through a spin-wheel draw, recognizing their achievements. This year, students from 100 schools across Cuddalore, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, and Chengalpattu districts participated, reflecting VELS’ strong regional impact.

Established in 2008, VISTAS is home to over 18,000 students and 1,100 faculty members, offering more than 100 UG and PG programs across disciplines including Medicine, Engineering, Law, Nursing, and Agriculture. Recognized by UGC, AICTE, NMC, INC, PCI, BCI, DGS, and NCTE, the university continues to nurture talent and inspire academic excellence in Chennai and beyond.
