VC Sajjanar warns of fake social media account in his name

V.C. Sajjanar, a senior IPS officer, has issued a public warning after cyber fraudsters created fake Facebook accounts in his name to scam his friends. The fraudsters reportedly sent messages claiming, “I’m in trouble, please send money,” leading to at least one friend transferring ₹20,000 to a fraudulent account.

Sajjanar highlighted that such cyber crimes are increasing day by day and are becoming a serious concern for citizens. He emphasized that he is not the only target, these groups target not just famous personalities or public officials, but also ordinary citizens. Common victims include people deceived through social media impersonations, fake banking apps, online investment scams, phishing emails, lottery or job scams, and fake e-commerce or delivery notifications.

In his official statement, Sajjanar clarified that his legitimate Facebook page is facebook.com/share/1DHPndAp , and all other accounts claiming to be him are fake. He urged the public never to respond to friend requests or messages requesting money from anyone claiming to be him or any other public official without verification.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Team (@CyberCrimeshyd), with support from Meta (@Meta), is actively working to remove these fraudulent accounts. Sajjanar advised people to always verify messages by directly contacting the person via phone before taking any action. He also emphasized the importance of blocking and reporting suspicious messages, links, or video calls immediately.

For reporting cyber frauds, citizens are encouraged to contact the 1930 Helpline or file complaints at cybercrime.gov.in . Sajjanar concluded his advisory with a reminder: “Only alertness can protect us and our money from cyber criminals. Stay Alert. Stay Safe.”
