V.C. Sajjanar Honours 1,446 City Police Personnel With ‘Extra Mile’ Awards

City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar presented the “Extra Mile” Awards to police personnel in recognition of distinguished service , honouring a total of 1,446 staff members . The initiative, launched by the City Police Commissionerate , aims to encourage officers who demonstrate exceptional performance beyond their routine duties, reinforcing the core goal of policing earning public trust .

The awards ceremony was held at the Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Center in Hyderabad on Sunday. On this occasion, Commissioner Sajjanar personally presented both the newly introduced “Extra Mile” Awards, a first in city police history and “Good Work Done” rewards to personnel who showed outstanding dedication in duty.

Addressing the gathering, Sajjanar stated that policing is not merely a job but a social responsibility . He urged personnel to go beyond procedural duties, understand citizens’ concerns, and provide confidence to victims . He emphasized that responsibility , transparency , innovation , and a humane approach are critical pillars of effective policing.

The Commissioner noted that merely completing tasks is not the true measure of success; rather, building public confidence through those actions is what truly matters. When officers serve society beyond formal duty limits, the credibility of the police system grows stronger, he said.

Explaining the objective of the Extra Mile initiative, he said it seeks to identify and motivate personnel who show outstanding initiative beyond assigned responsibilities. Such recognition, he added, boosts morale and inspires officers to work with greater commitment . No matter how advanced technology becomes, integrity , dedication , and compassion remain irreplaceable human values in policing, Sajjanar stressed. He also appreciated the role of everyone from Home Guards to senior officers in maintaining law and order in the city.

Announcing that the recognition process will continue regularly, the Commissioner said that monthly zonal-level awards will be given to SHOs , SIs , and constables based on distinguished service. The current awards were finalised based on performance during the second, third, and fourth quarters of the last financial year. Of the total recipients, 271 personnel received Extra Mile Awards , while 1,175 staff members were given Good Work Done rewards .

Awardees included Additional DCPs , ACPs , Inspectors , SIs , ASIs , Head Constables , Constables , Home Guards , ministerial staff , and public prosecutors . Senior officers such as Additional Commissioner M. Srinivasulu, IPS , and Joint Commissioner Shwetha, IPS also attended the programme. Officials said this initiative marks a new direction in encouraging a service-oriented culture within the city police department.
