India’s rising badminton star Shriyanshi Valishetty captured her first BWF Super 100 title in the women’s singles category at the USD 120,000 Al Ain Masters on Sunday, overcoming compatriot Tasnim Mir in a thrilling three-game final.

The 18-year-old from Telangana, training at the renowned Pullela Gopichand Academy, demonstrated poise and resilience to bounce back from a game down, triumphing 15-21, 22-20, 21-7 in a 49-minute showdown.

Valishetty’s journey in the final began with a setback as she lost the opening game despite holding an early four-point lead. Tasnim Mir mounted a strong comeback, turning a 4-8 deficit into a 21-15 win.

The second game tested both players’ nerves. Valishetty fought from 1-4 behind to build a slender lead at 8-5, later extending it to 17-14. Tasnim stayed in contention, but Valishetty’s calm under pressure earned her a hard-fought 22-20 win, forcing a decider.

In the final game, Valishetty seized control early. Even after Tasnim briefly led 6-5, Valishetty unleashed an electrifying 15-point streak, dominating the remainder of the match to seal the title emphatically.

This victory marks a milestone for Valishetty, who continues to emerge as one of India’s brightest young talents on the international badminton circuit. Her remarkable comeback under pressure reflects both her skill and determination, signaling a promising future ahead.
