Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes 84-ball 190 in Vijay Hazare match
Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi announced his arrival on the senior domestic stage in emphatic fashion, blasting a breathtaking 190 off just 84 balls for Bihar in their Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
Bihar's batters went on a record-breaking spree with teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and skipper Sakibul Gani leading the carnage with the quickest hundreds to power them to a world record team total of 574/6 in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match
With this innings, Suryavanshi also became the youngest centurion in List A cricket, marking a historic milestone and further strengthening his reputation as one of India’s most exciting young batting prospects.
Opening the innings, Suryavanshi produced a display of fearless and sustained power-hitting that transformed an otherwise routine contest into a spectacle. He raced to his century in only 36 balls, making it the second-fastest hundred by an Indian in List A cricket. The Indian record remains with Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh, who struck a 35-ball ton against the same opposition in 2024.
Suryavanshi’s innings was studded with 15 sixes and 16 fours, as he dominated a modest Arunachal Pradesh bowling attack with ease and confidence well beyond his years. His assault set the tone for Bihar after they elected to bat first, putting the opposition under immediate pressure.
The knock was particularly significant as it came just three days after Suryavanshi endured a rare failure in the final of the U19 Asia Cup against Pakistan in the UAE. Showing remarkable resilience, the teenage batter bounced back in style, underlining his temperament along with his explosive talent.
In the global context, the fastest List A hundreds are held by Jake Fraser-McGurk, who scored one off 29 balls for South Australia against Tasmania in the 2023–24 season, and South African great AB de Villiers, who reached three figures in 31 balls against the West Indies in Johannesburg in 2015.
With this innings, Suryavanshi also became the youngest centurion in List A cricket, marking a historic milestone and further strengthening his reputation as one of India’s most exciting young batting prospects. Thanks to the hundreds by the troika of Suryavanshi, Gani and Loharuka, Bihar comfortably shattered the previous record held by Tamil Nadu (506/2 also vs Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022-23 season).
