Uttarakhand Cabinet Approves 25 Proposals, From Safer Hill Roads to Sports Coaching
The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Thursday approved 25 proposals covering tourism, revenue collection, education, sports and infrastructure ahead of the two-day Assembly session scheduled to be held in the winter capital Gairsain next week.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved the establishment of Uttarakhand Adventure Tourism Corporation Limited to promote the planned, safe and sustainable development of adventure and eco-tourism in the state.
The Cabinet also cleared a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme to resolve pending stamp-duty cases. Around 3,600 cases are pending before the courts of the Stamp Collector and the Board of Revenue as of the 2026-27 financial year. The scheme aims to speed up settlements, facilitate revenue collection and provide relief on interest and penalties.
In a road infrastructure-related decision, the Cabinet approved changes to the process for sanctioning second-phase road and bridge works under the Public Works Department. Activities including hill-slope cutting, retaining walls, culverts and drains will now receive approval in a single stage instead of separate stages. The move is intended to ensure timely implementation of protective measures and minimise road damage.
The Cabinet approved raising the annual family income limit for the free coaching scheme for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students from ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh, allowing more eligible students to access coaching for competitive examinations.
It also approved allocating land to Annamrita Foundation in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts for centralised kitchens under the PM Poshan scheme, which provides cooked meals.
Under the One District, One Sport initiative, 14 head coaches will be appointed on three-year contracts, with a fixed monthly honorarium of ₹1.45 lakh. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to provide free travel on Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses to athletes who have won awards at the state or national level.
Other decisions included restructuring all 13 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), reducing positions from 48 to 44 at each institute, and granting a 5% relaxation in passing marks for students with disabilities appearing in Uttarakhand Board examinations. Such students will be considered passed with 28% marks.
The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Uniform Civil Code Rules, moved the Uttarakhand GST Amendment Ordinance, 2026, towards introduction as a Bill, and renamed the maintenance grant scheme Mukhyamantri Ekal Nari Samman Yojana.
