US Tourist Arrested in Shimla After Viral Videos Spark Outrage Over Public Misconduct

An American tourist was arrested in Shimla after videos allegedly showing him behaving aggressively with members of the public at the city's iconic Ridge Maidan went viral on social media, prompting swift action by local authorities.

The accused, identified as Joshua Christian , was taken into custody by Shimla Police on Friday on charges related to indecent behaviour and creating a public nuisance . The arrest followed the circulation of multiple videos that appeared to show the foreign national shouting at people, making inappropriate gestures and engaging in confrontational behaviour in one of the state's most visited public spaces.

According to police officials, the department took cognisance of the viral footage and quickly identified the individual. He was subsequently arrested under Section 114 of the Himachal Pradesh Police Act , which deals with conduct causing disturbance and public inconvenience.
