The US Embassy in New Delhi and all US consulates across India will remain closed from December 24 to December 26, 2025, with routine consular services suspended during this period, the Embassy announced on Tuesday.

In a post on X, the US Embassy said the closure is in accordance with a Presidential Executive Order providing for the shutdown of executive departments and agencies of the US federal government on these dates. “The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, December 26, 2025. Routine consular services will not be available during these dates,” the Embassy said.

Earlier, on December 18, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the closure of all executive departments and agencies of the federal government on December 24 and December 26 the day before and the day after Christmas Day excusing federal employees from duty.

Ahead of Christmas, Trump also announced a special ‘warrior dividend’ for US military personnel during his address to the nation. He said that over 1.45 million military service members would receive the payment before Christmas.

“I am proud to announce that more than 1,450,000 military service members will receive a special warrior dividend before Christmas. In honour of our nation’s founding in 1776, we are sending every soldier 1,776 dollars,” Trump said.

The US President also highlighted what he described as the economic achievements of his administration, claiming that the US had secured a record 18 trillion dollars in investment. He attributed the growth to tariff policies, stating that companies were returning to the US to build factories and manufacturing plants.

“We’re poised for an economic boom, the likes of which the world has never seen,” Trump added.
