
US-Based Doctor Loses ₹1 Crore Worth Gold at Bengaluru Wedding Hall
A US-based doctor reportedly lost gold ornaments worth around ₹1 crore at a marriage hall in Bengaluru, in an incident that has triggered a police investigation, officials said on Monday.
According to police, the complainant had travelled from the United States to Bengaluru on April 18 to attend her nephew’s wedding. She was staying with her brother in Ganganagar and was participating in wedding-related functions at a hall located on Old Madras Road .
In her complaint, the doctor stated that she had brought approximately 725 grams of gold ornaments with her from abroad. While attending the wedding ceremonies, she allegedly wore some of the jewellery and kept the remaining valuables in a locked room inside the wedding hall .
The incident is said to have taken place on April 22 . When she returned to the room later, she found that the ornaments were missing , prompting concern and suspicion of theft.
The complainant has also alleged that during the time she was changing her jewellery, a female staff member of the wedding hall entered the room and later left , after which the valuables went missing. Based on this suspicion, she has named the individual in her complaint, police said.
Following the complaint, a case has been registered at Avalahalli police station under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (theft) . Police officials have confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to trace the missing jewellery and verify the sequence of events.
Further inquiry is underway to examine CCTV footage, staff movements, and other evidence from the wedding venue to determine how the ornaments disappeared from a locked room.
Police said all angles, including possible insider involvement, are being looked into as part of the ongoing investigation.
