The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the results of the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2025, declaring 2,736 candidates qualified for the Personality Test (Interview) round. The examination was conducted between August 22 and August 31, 2025, as part of the annual recruitment process for India’s premier civil services.

According to the UPSC notification 2025, the Civil Services Examination 2025 will fill a total of 979 vacancies across the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other Central Services (Group A and B).

This year, around 14,161 candidates had qualified from the Preliminary stage to appear in the Main examination. With 2,736 now shortlisted for the Personality Test, the competition remains among the toughest in the country with about one in five Main exam candidates advancing to the interview stage, and roughly one in three of them expected to make it to the final merit list. Ultimately, only about one in fourteen candidates from the Main examination are likely to secure an appointment based on the 979 available vacancies.

The vacancy count of 979 is marginally lower than last year’s 1,105, marking one of the tightest recruitment cycles in recent years. The reduced intake underscores the intense competition faced by aspirants, as lakhs of candidates appear for the Preliminary stage every year.

The shortlisted candidates have been advised to update and verify their personal, academic, and service preference details online between November 13 and November 27, 2025, as mandated by UPSC rules. The Personality Tests (Interviews) will be conducted at Dholpur House, New Delhi, with dates to be notified soon.

Following the interviews, the final merit list will be prepared based on the combined performance in the Main examination and the Personality Test. The mark sheets of all candidates will be uploaded within 15 days of the final result declaration.

The Civil Services Examination continues to be India’s most prestigious and competitive selection process, offering entry to some of the nation’s most sought-after administrative and policy-making roles.
