UP’s Rs 272 Crore Industrial Plan: Sultanpur to Get New Manufacturing and Logistics Hub

Uttar Pradesh has approved a Rs 272.25-crore project to develop an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC) in Sultanpur, advancing a larger effort to build industrial hubs along the state's expressway network.

The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved infrastructure development and construction works for the cluster under the Industrial Corridor Scheme. The entire cost of the approved construction package will be borne by the Uttar Pradesh government, with no Central financial participation proposed for the project.

The Sultanpur IMLC is planned across 811 acres near the Purvanchal Expressway, at a site around 30 km northeast of Sultanpur city. UPEIDA's project material places the site at kilometre 139 of the expressway, with NH-128 around 500 metres away, giving it access to important road links.

The project, however, is not starting from scratch. UPEIDA had reported in August 2025 that 714 acres of the planned 811 acres had already been acquired. The authority had also been seeking investor interest for IMLCs across Uttar Pradesh, inviting companies and developers to indicate their proposed investments, plot requirements and industrial plans.

The Sultanpur cluster is part of a wider network of 27 IMLCs being developed along five expressways. The broader programme is intended to attract manufacturing, logistics and related industrial activity while creating employment and strengthening regional economies.

UPEIDA's investment material has identified opportunities for industrial and logistics plots at Sultanpur and linked the project to incentives available under Uttar Pradesh's industrial investment policy. However, no official company-wise investment commitment for Sultanpur has been publicly disclosed in the material available.

The next step will be a global tender to select the construction agency, after which infrastructure work is expected to begin.

Beyond the Rs 272 crore allocation, the project's larger significance lies in whether the infrastructure can translate into actual industrial units, private investment and sustained employment. With most of the proposed land already acquired, Sultanpur is moving from planning towards execution, giving the state an opportunity to turn its expressway connectivity into a durable manufacturing and logistics base.
