UP woman dies filming hanging scene for social media reel
A 27‑year‑old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district died in a tragic accident while filming a social media reel depicting a hanging scene at her home, police and family sources said. The incident took place on Friday afternoon in Baberu town’s Karuiya Purva area, where the victim, identified as Mohini , was trying to shoot the video in front of her four‑year‑old daughter.
According to senior police officials, Mohini had tied a rope to a hook in the ceiling and placed a noose around her neck while standing on a stool to record the scene. Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said, “ Initial investigation indicates that the incident occurred while the woman was filming a reel. The body has been sent for post‑mortem, and the matter is being investigated from all angles .”
Neighbours and family were alerted when Mohini’s four‑year‑old daughter entered the room and screamed upon seeing her mother suspended from the makeshift noose. “ The child told us her mother was acting for a reel and asked her to record it just before the tragedy, ” a police official quoted from the child’s statement.
Mohini’s husband, Jagdish, said he was at work when he received word of the accident. “ There were no disputes or problems in the family, and we had no indication Mohini would do something like this, ” her father‑in‑law Ram Gopal told reporters, adding that he was unaware of Mohini’s social media activities.
Senior police confirmed that the body has been sent for a post‑mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Station House Officer Rajendra Singh Rajawat said the victim’s mobile phone showed extensive online searches related to hanging, a detail that officers are reviewing as part of the ongoing probe. “ We are investigating the case from every possible angle to rule out any foul play, ” he added.
Local residents and authorities emphasised the incident as a tragic warning about the dangers of extreme stunts and risky content creation for social media platforms. Neighbours urged caution, saying the episode highlights how quickly staged actions can turn fatal when safety is not considered.
