UP to Build Dedicated Structures for All Anganwadi Centres, Says Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to ensure that all Anganwadi centres in the state function from their own dedicated buildings, with a focus on strengthening early childhood care and nutrition services.
During a review meeting, officials informed the Chief Minister that over 1.89 lakh Anganwadi centres are operational across the state, of which nearly 76,000 are functioning without their own buildings . Emphasising that Anganwadi centres cater to children in the 3–6 years age group and serve as pre-primary learning spaces, Adityanath stressed the need for child-friendly infrastructure, quality learning arrangements and attractive building designs .
The Chief Minister suggested that construction of new buildings could be supported through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives , with the state government extending financial assistance wherever required. He also directed officials to explore prefabricated construction models and to prepare a standardised design along with a detailed implementation plan for uniform development across districts.
The proposed upgraded centres will include adequate play areas , provision for hot cooked meals , low-height wash units , child-friendly toilets and safe drinking water facilities. Plans also provide for a separate room for health check-ups of pregnant women , reinforcing maternal care services alongside child development. In addition, the centres are expected to incorporate nutrition gardens (Poshan Vatikas) and rainwater harvesting systems to promote sustainability and awareness about healthy food practices.
Wherever feasible, the Chief Minister instructed that new Anganwadi buildings be constructed within the premises of primary schools to enable integrated delivery of education, nutrition and health services at a single location .
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Adityanath said that Anganwadi centres are not merely physical structures but the foundation for future generations , and that providing safe, clean and modern facilities for children, pregnant women and the community remains a top priority. The initiative is expected to give fresh momentum to the vision of “Healthy Childhood – Empowered Uttar Pradesh.”
