UP SIR: over 84 lakh voters added, electorate swells to 13.39 crore
The voter base in Uttar Pradesh has expanded significantly, with over 84 lakh new voters added, taking the total electorate to 13.39 crore , according to the final electoral roll released after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
The final voter list was published on Friday after a detailed revision process carried out between October 27, 2025 and April 10, 2026 , covering all 75 districts, 403 assembly constituencies, and all polling stations across the state.
Addressing a press conference at the Lok Bhawan Media Centre in Lucknow, Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the exercise reflected large-scale administrative coordination involving election machinery, political parties, and voters.
He said the process included District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant EROs, Booth Level Supervisors, and over 1.77 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) . Political parties also played a key role through more than 5.82 lakh booth-level agents , ensuring wide participation and verification at the ground level.
From 15.44 Crore to 12.55 Crore: The Scale of Deletions:
Before the SIR process began, Uttar Pradesh's pre-SIR electoral roll stood at 15.44 crore voters as of October 27, 2025. When the draft electoral roll was published on January 6, 2026, it retained only 12.55 crore names, meaning nearly 2.89 crore voters, or 18.70 per cent of the original list, were not included in the draft roll.
Of those removed at the draft stage, 46.23 lakh were deleted due to reported deaths confirmed during field verification, 2.17 crore were found to have permanently shifted or migrated from their registered addresses, and 25.47 lakh were either found to have duplicate voter IDs or were untraceable at the time of enumeration.
Restoration Through Claims and Objections:
The draft roll's publication triggered a claims and objections window from January 6 to February 6, 2026 , during which voters whose names had been removed could apply for reinstatement by submitting supporting documents. The notice and verification phase ran until February 27, 2026.
As a result of this process, a significant number of voters were re-verified and restored to the rolls. According to the draft electoral roll published on January 6, 2026, the state had 12.55 crore voters, which has now risen to 13.39 crore in the final list, marking a net increase of 84,28,767 voters .
It is important to note that the exact category-wise breakdown of deletions confirmed in the final roll, including the precise number of deaths, duplicates, and shifted voters, has not been separately disclosed in official statements released as of today's press conference. The figures of 46.23 lakh deaths and 2.17 crore shifted voters pertain to the draft stage. The CEO Uttar Pradesh's official website at ceouttarpradesh.nic.in is expected to carry the definitive final-stage figures.
Final Electoral Roll: Key Figures:
The updated electorate includes 7.30 crore male voters , 6.09 crore female voters , and 4,206 third gender voters . The gender ratio improved from 824 to 834 female voters per 1,000 male voters , indicating better gender inclusion in the voter list.
A notable rise was also seen in young voters. The 18-19 age group increased sharply to 17,63,360 voters , reflecting stronger youth participation in the electoral process.
Among districts, Prayagraj recorded the highest increase in voters, followed by Lucknow, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, and Jaunpur.
Officials said the successful completion of the revision exercise highlights coordinated efforts across departments and growing public participation in strengthening the electoral process.
