The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi has appreciated the Uttar Pradesh Police for rescuing 453 Nepalese citizens allegedly trapped by an international fraud syndicate in Kushinagar and facilitating their safe return to their home country.

In an official letter addressed to Kushinagar Senior Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, the embassy expressed gratitude for the police operation, describing it as an example of human compassion and effective law enforcement, the UP Police said in a statement on Saturday. The rescued individuals included 115 women and 338 men, who were allegedly lured to Uttar Pradesh with promises of employment, higher education and lucrative earnings.

According to police, the international fraud syndicate was busted in May during a coordinated operation in Kasya town of Kushinagar. Ten alleged gang members, including eight men and two women, were arrested in connection with the racket.

Investigators said the accused primarily targeted economically weaker and less-educated individuals from various parts of Nepal. They allegedly attracted victims through promises of jobs, educational opportunities and high returns under the guise of network marketing.

Once the victims arrived in Kushinagar, they were allegedly forced to pay money towards training, registration and other processing charges, police said. During the investigation, police rescued 453 Nepalese nationals from the syndicate's influence and coordinated arrangements for their safe return to Nepal.

Those arrested included Nepalese nationals Deepak Thapa, Om Prakash Chaulagai, Nima Sherpa, Ganesh Khatri, Sojanya Santan, Gyanendra Yadav and Vishal Tamang. Sarvesh Pratap Rao, a resident of Parsouna in Kasya, was also among the accused. Two women allegedly associated with the racket were arrested as well.

During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to being part of an organised international network that cheated vulnerable people using forged documents and false assurances, police had said. The embassy's appreciation highlights the cross-border implications of the alleged racket and the importance of coordinated law enforcement in protecting vulnerable citizens from organised fraud and exploitation.
