UP Police launches YAKSH app to track criminals using AI

Uttar Pradesh has taken a major step towards technology-driven law enforcement with the launch of the YAKSH App , an advanced digital platform designed to help police track criminals, analyse crime patterns, and speed up investigations.

The application was unveiled by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the two-day Police Manthan 2025 conference, which began on Friday and brought together senior police officers from across the state to deliberate on modern policing challenges and solutions.

Powered by artificial intelligence, the YAKSH App integrates facial recognition technology, CrimeGPT-based analytical tools, gang-network mapping, and real-time alert systems. The platform consolidates data related to offenders, repeat criminals, and organised crime networks, enabling police units to access actionable intelligence quickly and prevent crimes more effectively.

Officials said the app will significantly reduce response times and improve coordination between police stations by offering instant access to criminal records and predictive insights. By linking facial recognition inputs with historical crime data, investigators can identify suspects faster and establish connections between crimes that may otherwise go unnoticed.

The conference also showcased the Smart SHO Dashboard , a digital monitoring system that allows senior officers to track investigations, case progress, and station-level performance in real time. The dashboard aims to promote accountability, improve case disposal rates, and enhance transparency within the policing system.

Sessions at Police Manthan 2025 focused on key areas such as beat policing, women’s safety, police station infrastructure upgrades, cybercrime preparedness, and capacity building. Special emphasis was placed on Mission Shakti, the state’s flagship initiative for women’s security, and on advanced training to tackle emerging cyber threats.

Senior officials described the integration of AI and data-driven tools as a transformative shift for policing in Uttar Pradesh. By adopting modern technology, the state aims to build a more responsive, intelligence-led, and citizen-friendly police force capable of addressing both conventional crimes and evolving digital threats.

The YAKSH App, officials said, represents a broader push to modernise law enforcement by combining technology, training, and institutional reforms to ensure safer communities and faster justice delivery.
