UP MLC Polls: Re-Polling at Three Agra Booths on Monday, Counting on October 27
Re-polling will be held at three polling stations in the Agra teachers’ constituency for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council biennial elections on October 26, following the Election Commission’s decision to declare the earlier voting at these booths void, officials said on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer’s office, the re-polling will take place from 8 am to 4 pm on Monday at the three designated polling stations.
The polling stations identified for fresh voting are station number 20 at Tehsil Campus, Khairagarh, room number one; station number 21 at the Kshetra Panchayat Office, Saiyan, room number one; and station number 26 at the Kshetra Panchayat Office, Fatehabad, room number one.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the Election Commission had decided to conduct re-polling at these locations following a recommendation from the returning officer of the constituency.
The voting conducted at the three polling stations on October 23 has been declared void under Section 58A(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the statement said.
The decision comes amid allegations of electoral irregularities raised by the Samajwadi Party (SP) during the Legislative Council elections. The party had alleged booth capturing and other irregularities in several districts, including Agra, during polling on Friday and Saturday.
On Saturday, the SP submitted a complaint to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, alleging booth capturing during the elections. The Election Commission’s decision to order fresh polling at the three booths comes ahead of the counting of votes, which is scheduled for October 27.
The re-polling is expected to determine the outcome at the affected polling stations before the counting process gets underway. The authorities have directed that voting at the three locations be conducted during the stipulated hours on Monday. The Agra teachers’ constituency is among those covered by the biennial elections to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
