Unorganised Worker Database e-Shram Crosses 31 Crore Mark, Labour Minister Informs Lok Sabha
The e-Shram portal , the national database of unorganised workers, has crossed the 31-crore registration mark , with over 31.48 crore workers enrolled as of January 26, 2026, the government informed the Lok Sabha on Monday. The information was shared by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje in a written reply.
Launched on August 26, 2021 , by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the e-Shram portal was created to build a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) . Workers registering on the platform receive a Universal Account Number (UAN) on a self-declaration basis, which acts as a lifetime digital identity and enables access to social security benefits across states.
Following the Union Budget 2024–25 , the government expanded e-Shram into a “One-Stop Solution” for unorganised workers. The upgraded platform, launched on October 21, 2024 , integrates multiple welfare schemes at a single portal, allowing registered workers to access benefits and view schemes already availed.
So far, 14 central government schemes have been integrated with e-Shram. These include Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi) , Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) , Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) , Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) , Ayushman Bharat – PM Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) , Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban and Gramin) , PM-KISAN , One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana , among others.
The portal is also linked with the National Career Service for job opportunities, the Skill India Digital Hub for skill development, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan for pension benefits, and the convergence portal of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
To widen coverage among migrant, construction and agricultural workers , the ministry has enabled self-registration through the web portal and mobile app, assisted enrolment via Common Service Centres , State Sewa Kendras and the UMANG platform , along with targeted awareness campaigns. The e-Shram mobile application , launched on February 24, 2025 , provides real-time access to integrated welfare services.
