At a time when the Union government is taking steps towards women’s empowerment , the BJP Mahila Morcha in Telangana organised a unique programme amid ongoing discussions in Parliament on the Women’s Reservation Bill . A large-scale ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ event was held at Pallavi Engineering College in Hayathnagar, where participants expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi .

A 3D sand rangoli art installation , set up under the aegis of the Mahila Morcha to mark the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, drew widespread attention. BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao , Malka Komaraiah, and Dr Shilpa Reddy, along with a large number of students, participated in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, N. Ramchander Rao said it was heartening to organise the programme at a time when discussions on the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ were underway in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He stated that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, women are finally receiving adequate representation after decades . He added that women’s representation in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies is expected to increase significantly in the upcoming elections. He noted that this was the eighth programme in a series of such initiatives.

Dr Shilpa Reddy said that, on behalf of the Telangana Mahila Morcha, scooter rallies, padayatras, and conventions are being organised to convey gratitude to the Prime Minister. She described the sand art created at Pallavi Engineering College as a tribute from women to Modi . She asserted that a ‘Viksit Bharat’ is not just about women’s development but also about women-led governance , which she said Modi has demonstrated. She added that the law would result in 273 women in Parliament and around 60 women in the Telangana Assembly .

Reference to historic reforms

Leaders stated that previous governments, despite being in power for decades, had failed to prioritise the women’s bill. In contrast, they said the Modi government, within a decade, had taken bold decisions such as the Ayodhya Ram Temple , abrogation of Article 370 , and ban on triple talaq , and has now introduced women’s reservations.

At present, discussions are underway in the Lok Sabha on the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill-2026 . Alongside this, a delimitation bill proposing an increase in Lok Sabha seats to 850 is also under consideration. During a 12-hour-long debate , Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated, while opposition leaders Akhilesh Yadav, Asaduddin Owaisi, and K.C. Venugopal expressed concerns over the potential loss of representation for southern states due to delimitation. In the voting, 251 votes were cast in favour of introducing the Bills, while 185 votes were against .

Welcoming this legislation, which aims to grant political empowerment to women , the Telangana Mahila Morcha reiterated its strong support.
