Underprivileged kids to get fair school seats

The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced stricter regulations to ensure that underprivileged children have better access to education in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

From now on, the entire admission process will be conducted online through the official portal: www.rte25.upsdc.gov.in . Applicants will need to provide Aadhaar cards for both the child and their parents. The government has set age limits - children aged 3 to 6 years are eligible for pre-primary classes, and those aged 6 to 7 years can apply for Class 1.

To oversee the process, a district-level committee has been established, chaired by the district magistrate and comprising over twelve officials. Additionally, any disputes during the admission process will be handled by a four-member team led by the Chief Development Officer (CDO).

The RTE scheme is designed to support children from marginalized groups, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes, orphans, and children of families affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, or disabilities. Families with an annual income of up to ₹1 lakh are also eligible.

Private schools are required to declare the number of available seats and update the details of admitted students on both the RTE and UDISE portals to qualify for fee reimbursement. Legal action will be taken against schools found to be involved in fraudulent admissions.
