UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock to Begin First Official India Visit Next Week

United Nations General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock is set to undertake her first official visit to India next week , marking an important diplomatic engagement in her current role, according to a statement from her spokesperson.

Baerbock, who presides over the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly , will travel to New Delhi as part of an official duty visit that also includes China. The visit has been extended at the invitation of the governments of both countries, spokesperson La Neice Collins confirmed during a press briefing at the United Nations.

During her stay in India, Baerbock is scheduled to hold multiple bilateral meetings with senior government officials, focusing on key areas of cooperation between India and the United Nations. She will also interact with the UN country team in India , led by UN Resident Coordinator Stefan Priesner , to review ongoing programmes and collaborative efforts.

This visit carries added significance as it is Baerbock’s first trip to India in her capacity as UNGA President , although she has previously visited the country during her tenure as Germany’s Foreign Minister .

After concluding her engagements in India, she will travel to China, where similar high level meetings with government representatives and the UN country team, led by Resident Coordinator Stephen Jackson , are planned.

The visit comes shortly after UN Secretary General António Guterres attended the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi earlier this year, reflecting the growing frequency of high level UN engagements with India on global issues, including governance, development, and technology.

Baerbock’s tour is expected to further strengthen dialogue between the United Nations and two of Asia’s major powers at a time of increasing global diplomatic activity.
