UK Prime Minister Calls Attack ‘Appalling’ After Two Stabbed in London Jewish Area
Two people were stabbed in a suspected antisemitic attack in Golders Green, north-west London, prompting a major police response, a counterterror investigation, and strong political condemnation from Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The attack took place in a predominantly Jewish neighbourhood of London , where a man was seen running along Golders Green Road armed with a knife and allegedly attempting to attack Jewish residents in public areas. He was later detained following intervention by members of the Shomrim community security group , before police arrived and used a stun gun to arrest him.
The suspect, identified as a 45-year-old man , is in police custody on suspicion of attempted murder. Counterterrorism officers are now assisting in the investigation to determine whether the incident is linked to wider antisemitic activity or extremist motivations.
The victims, reported to be a man in his 30s and another in his 70s, were treated at the scene and taken to hospital. They are now said to be in stable condition , with emergency treatment provided by the Jewish volunteer ambulance service Hatzola , which also responded quickly alongside police and community responders.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Parliament the attack was “deeply concerning” and reiterated that “attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain” , adding that authorities would ensure those responsible face justice. Other senior leaders, including the London Mayor and Home Office officials, also condemned the violence.
Community organisations such as the Community Security Trust (CST) said they were working closely with police and praised the rapid response of volunteers who helped prevent further harm. CST confirmed it was treating the incident as part of a wider escalation in antisemitic threats.
The stabbing comes amid a series of recent attacks on Jewish sites in London , including arson incidents targeting synagogues and community facilities in north London. Authorities are examining possible links between these events, with counterterrorism units already investigating suspected coordinated activity and extremist connections in earlier cases.
