Uganda School Bus Crash Kills 20 Children, Adult After Vehicle Overturns During Educational Trip

At least 20 children and one adult were killed after a school bus carrying students crashed in eastern Uganda, police said on Friday. The tragic accident occurred while the children were returning from an educational tour to the famous Sipi Falls waterfalls in the country’s Kapchorwa District.

According to the Uganda Police Force , the crash took place on Thursday night when the bus reportedly lost control, veered off the road, hit a rock and overturned. The vehicle belonged to King David Junior School , an elementary school based in Uganda’s capital, Kampala .

Police said several survivors, including three adults and multiple children , were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet released the exact number of injured passengers.

The accident has sent shockwaves across Uganda, with families and the school community mourning the loss of young lives. Emergency teams and local authorities responded to the crash site as investigations began into the cause of the tragedy.

Road accidents involving school transport have raised concerns in several African countries, where authorities continue to focus on improving road safety measures, vehicle inspections and driver training to prevent such incidents.

The students had been on an educational trip aimed at learning about the region’s natural attractions before the journey ended in tragedy. Police officials are investigating the circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

The crash is among the deadliest school transport accidents reported in Uganda in recent years, highlighting ongoing concerns over road safety and the protection of children travelling for educational activities.
